hřebenky - Location
The area which is now the City District Praha 5 was mentioned as early as 13th century. One of the district’s most important parts, Smíchov, was given the city rights in 1903. In 1922, Smíchov was incorporated into Greater Prague as a part of its new district. In the 19th and 20th centuries, a new villa neighborhood was built above Smíchov. Its name was Hřebenky.
This neighborhood was always among the most important ones, for the architecture as well as for the inhabitants. They were businessmen, artists, architects, university professors, journalists and other members of the national elite. In 1990s, Hřebenky followed up on its history. The area towering high above Smíchov and Košíře again became aware in public.
The elevated location provides for clean air, unusual for the Prague basin. Furthermore, Hřebenky is one of the greenest neighborhoods in the city. And it takes just a few minutes to get downtown.
